Job Description

Primary responsibility is to ensure effective communications within in the Association. Develops programs to communicate the benefits of SDA to external audiences. Provides leadership in communicating association’s programs and value to industry members and assists association’s leadership in message development. Serves as editor-in-chief for the association, ensuring consistency of message and appearance.  Oversees all social media content as well.

What You’ll Do:

  • Serve as editor-in-chief & content developer for association’s publications, including weekly e-newsletter, Senior Dining Today (Magazine), Senior Dining Solutions (2ndustry resource guide) and other industry
  • Manage contracts for communications consultants.
  • Serve as content curator and develop strategy for association’s website and social media campaigns.
  • Assist in membership recruitment and retention efforts including the development of collateral materials.
  • Assist with designing, editing, and dissemination of promotional and educational materials for the SDA Conference & Expo and other meetings.
  • Serve as liaison with SDA communications team, including participating in advisory committee activities.
  • Assist in development of content and educational programs for state/regional associations to promote SDA initiatives.
  • Draft press releases.
  • Work with membership department to draft an annual value statement to members.
  • Coordinate production of annual membership directory and committee directory.
  • Develop new communications tools for the industry.
  • Provide guidance to state affairs team on strategic communication efforts to support State Engagement Initiative programs.
  • Assist SDA leadership in developing speeches and other communication as needed for visits to state/regional associations or other industry events.
  • Staffing SDA booth at occasional trade association conventions for related industries.
  • Attend/ Work SDA Annual Conference & Expo
  • Perform other duties as directed by the President and CEO.


  • Associates degree or 6+ years equivalent experience
  • 5+ years in a fast-paced environment
  • High degree of accuracy and proficiency in data entry

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficient in MS Office; advanced skills in Excel
  • Experience working in an enterprise software environment
  • Project management experience a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to communicate verbally and in writing with all levels of associates and external parties including customers and vendors.
  • Strong detail and quality orientation.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; excellent telephone etiquette
  • Strong planning & organizing skills, impeccable follow-up and exceptional attention to detail
  • Must have ability to plan and prioritize workload to meet day to day needs
  • Must demonstrate a sense of urgency and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong working knowledge of the rules of effective English usage, including subject/verb agreement, tenses, and basic grammar
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion about confidential and sensitive information
  • Ability to read and comprehend basic instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Strong organization, analytical and follow up skills
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently and capable of working with little direct supervision
