As a Cook, you will use your excellent customer service skills to make sure that our seniors have the best day of their lives, every day. You’ll have the opportunity to support our residents by preparing nourishing meals to energize and satisfy them. In senior living, residents don’t live where we work – we work in their home! You’ll play an important role in delighting residents with wonderful meals!

Our Cooks work before, during and after meal service periods to prepare and deliver meals, as well as clean the kitchen following the meal period. As you gain experience, you will have the opportunity to be promoted to a Trainer or Gold level employee.

Minimum eligibility requirements
 • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
 • Must practice and promote the communities guidelines, Policies and Procedures, Mission Statement, Values        and Goals
 • Ability to read and write English.
 • Ability to speak English.
 • Ability to follow oral and written directions. 
• Must have a positive attitude toward the elderly.
 • Willingness to take responsibilities. 

Physical requirements
 • Ability to stand for 80% of shift.
 • Ability to move quickly and safely in event of emergency situation.
 • Ability to lift a maximum of 30 lbs.
 • Ability to push/pull (i.e. meal cart, tables, chairs, and sweep).
 • Frequent walking, reaching, bending, pivoting, grasping, lifting, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling. 
 • Must have ability to distinguish smells, tastes and temperatures
 • Ability to communicate with residents, personal and support agencies and ability to remain calm under stress
Essential functions
 • Prepare and serve food and meals in accordance with planned menus and established portion control procedures
 • Adjust menus and food preparation on short notice to accommodate unexpected food delivery problems, dietary needs, or guests
 • Assist in ensuring proper storage of raw and leftover foods
 • Complete daily and scheduled cleaning duties
 • Perform all daily tasks in accordance with established Universal Precautions and sanitary and infection control policies and procedures
 • Ensure that the department and all food storage and work areas are maintained in a clean and safe manner and that necessary equipment and supplies are properly maintained and arranged
 • Maintain habits of good personal hygiene
 • Promptly report all hazardous conditions, equipment, accidents and incidents to your supervisor
 • Dispose of food and waste in accordance with established policies and procedures
 • Assist in inventorying and storing incoming foods, supplies and equipment and recommend to the DSS the equipment and supply needs of the department
 • review menus prior to preparation of food and inspect all plates to ensure completeness and accuracy of menu and diet preferences
• establish food service production lines to ensure meals are timely prepared
 • complete necessary forms and reports to submit to the DSS
